For more than three decades, Johnson was a familiar and trusted presence in homes across West Central Florida, known for delivering accurate forecasts with expertise, warmth, and a touch of humor. Johnson earned his degree with honors from Florida State University in 1979, studying meteorology with a minor in mathematics. He began his broadcasting career at WTVT in Tampa shortly after and remained a key member of the station’s weather team until retiring in 2013. Beyond his on-air work, he was actively involved with the West Central Florida chapter of the American Meteorological Society, supporting and mentoring aspiring meteorologists.
After retirement, Johnson continued his work as a forensic meteorology expert, leading his consulting firm in Tampa and applying his knowledge to legal cases involving severe weather events.
